About Langham Wine Estate

Story

We are wine-growers. We specialise in making low-intervention, traditional method sparkling wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes grown on our 34 hectare vineyard on Crawthorne Farm, north-east of Dorchester in rural Dorset.

History

How It Began

Justin Langham planted the first blocks of the vineyard in 2009, inspired by his father John’s hobby vineyard at the manor house in nearby Bingham’s Melcombe. Small additions followed in 2011 and 2018, then in 2022 a further 18 hectares were planted, including ‘John’s Vineyard’, and ‘Betty’s Vineyard’, after Justin’s parents. The final 4 hectares were planted in 2024.

Identity

The Langham Style

We are proudly based in the west of England, making some of the region’s most celebrated wines. Compared to most sparkling wine producers, we take a minimal intervention, more oxidative approach to our winemaking, looking towards producers in the ‘Grower Champagne’ (Récoltant Manipulant) movement for inspiration.

Our vineyard sits on the same porous, ‘belemnitic’ chalk as found in Champagne’s Côte des Blancs, the hallowed white hills which produce some of the world’s greatest sparkling wines. Our winemaking style seeks to transparently and honestly represent this grand terroir.

Recognition

Award-Winning Wines

In 2020, we were named the Sparkling Wine Producer Of The Year by the International Wine & Spirits Competition, while in 2024 we were named Estate Winery Of The Year at the WineGB Awards, chaired by Susie Barrie MW, Oz Clarke OBE and Peter Richards MW.
