Blanc de Blancs 2017

£36.00

100% Chardonnay from 2017.

This wine has a stable foam and a pale gold colour with a fine stream of bubbles.

The nose is complex with ripe gala apple and poached pear. Some floral notes of apple blossom and honey suckle. A seriousness here too, with wet beach pebbles and toasted granary bread. A well-integrated orchard fruit acidity.

There are notes of confected apple, some creaminess and great texture. A lovely salinity and citrus balances well. Some light brioche and almond notes too.

A complex yet elegant example of how great Chardonnay can be in the UK.

Tasting Notes

Vintage:

2017

Blend:

100% barrel-aged Chardonnay

The Estate:

All Langham Estate wines are made using grapes grown at our single site in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of 12 hectares planted solely with the classic Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot meunier. The site was carefully selected for its south facing slope and free-draining chalk subsoil. A long growing season and considerate viticulture ensures we harvest the finest grapes possible.

Vinification:

The grapes were picked in October 2017 and gently pressed, whole bunch. Press fractions were carefully separated and left to naturally settle for 24 hours. Primary fermentation took place in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and used oak barrels, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Following 7 months of élevage, the final blend was bottled and left to age on lees for a minimum of 30 months. At disgorgement the wine received 3 g/L dosage and was aged for a further 3 to 6 months under cork. There has been no sulphur dioxide added to this wine.
